Amin, a 28 year old taxi driver stands in an pedestrian overpass in Tehran on 25th October, 2007. He studied as a food scientist at Tehran university but has been unable to find work specific to his field. He lives with his wife and newborn child in a small apartment. He works long hours as a taxi driver to support his new family and is disheartened by rental prices and cost of living in the Tehran capital.

Roxana, 29 stands at the top of the Alborz mountains around Tehran on 18th October, 2007. An activist for female rights and full time biochemist she enjoys the freedom in the mountains to literally let down her hair. All women in Iran are required to cover their hair with a hijab and failure to do so in public results in punishment by the government funded religious police.

Alireza, 29 sits at his desk in the office of the Encyclopedia of Islam, Tehran on 20th October, 2007. Once a devout Muslim, Alireza became  more disillusioned with the government during his time at university. He became active in student movements and was imprisoned for 6 months due to his involvement in ant-government protests.

Taghi, 26  sits playing a tanbur, a traditional Iranian stringed instrument at Tehran university on October 25th, 2007. He studies music and has a band who fuse traditional Iranian instruments and music with their own contemporary interpretations. This requires sensitivity as the government monitors music and will ban recordings and music groups if they are deemed as anti government.
